An awareness creeps in

On 24th March, 2021, I took a conscious decision in my life. Minor, though it may seem, it was one that was going to save me time and effort in executing an action that I had come to perceive as being often given scant respect by the receiver. I am talking about the despatch of ‘Good Morning’ messages to my ‘WhatsApp friends’.

I had been a consistent sender of such messages in its various forms, be it preceded by a thought-provoking pictorial quote, or a scenery, or a beautiful picture of flowers. On several occasions, when I woke up in the morning, I would spend precious moments trying to ferret out a ‘meaningful’ message from the archives in my mobile, so as to effectively convey, what I thought would be the appropriate mood for the day.

Having done so, I was expectant in receiving some comments or emojis to sanctify the mood that was sought to be created. While some of my contacts would endorse the message in whichever way they could and also reciprocate my greetings, there were others who would respond by sending another message. There were yet others who would take neither of the above actions, but send a crisp ‘good morning’, which, incidentally, was copied and pasted, day after day! But, worst of all were those who simply did not pay any heed to these messages, in terms of providing a response, although they would have been probably among the first to read such messages, as was evident by the blue ticks on WhatsApp.

So, after having studied the scenario for a very long time, I finally decided to call it quits, in terms of sending ‘Good Morning’ messages. And believe you me, today I did not receive a single such message, because I hadn’t sent the same to anyone!

Which brings me to the message that I wish to convey : no matter what the effort one takes to communicate, with all sincerity, his or her thoughts or wishes, it is more often than not forgotten the moment it is read and even deleted as being inconsequential. People, today, have become so mechanical and materialistic that emotions sought to be conveyed behind the written word are often never felt or appreciated and are cast away into oblivion, never to be recollected even in hindsight.
